How to make perfect hard-boiled eggs that are easy to peel

Making hard-boiled eggs is one of those skills you think you’ve mastered — Eggs. Water. Boil. Done… right? Not so fast. If you struggle to remove the shell or bite into a slightly sulfuric, green-tinted yolk, your eggs are less than perfect. It’s nothing personal: these problems arise when the proper level of doneness hasn’t been reached. Improve your process with these four steps for perfect hard-boiled eggs. Step 1: choose older eggs  The age of an egg does make a difference. The outer membrane of a freshly laid egg will cling to the shell more than older eggs, making the peeling process for difficult. Most likely, the eggs you’re getting at the supermarket are old enough that aging them in your fridge isn’t necessary, but check the expiration date. You don’t want expired eggs, but a week or two out are primed boiling candidates. STEP 2: Cooking the eggs Place eggs…

Cadbury Creme Eggs are a staple of spring. The tasty little treats are only available in the weeks leading up to Easter, so you might be tempted to pick up a few while you can. That is, until you see how much sugar goes into just one egg. A mother took to Facebook last week to show just how much sugar one Creme Egg contains, using a 2p for size reference. Sure, no one thought they were a health food, but it took seeing exactly how much sugar is in each egg to set off an internet storm. “Warning, may upset Creme Egg lovers,” Rebecca Balham posted on her Facebook page, The Little Red Hut Home & Gifts. The post has since had more than 16,000 comments and has been shared nearly 8,000 times. The comments range from outrage to disbelief, but most people are standing by their love of the…

Spring is for Simple Three Ingredient Shortbread Cookie Recipes

The other day I wanted to bake something from scratch, but I didn’t have tons on options in the way of ingredients. In fact, I shamefully had almost no baking  ingredients in my whole kitchen. It was the perfect day for these three ingredient shortbread cookies. Butter, sugar, flour. That’s it! How often can you say you baked something without running to the store? You can add butterscotch chips, dunk an end in chocolate or maybe even add some lemon or orange zest to kick this recipe up a notch. But on this day I was feeling like a purist. Good thing… because I didn’t have any of those fancy ingredients anyway. Here’s my recipe for 3 ingredient shortbread cookies. Yields 24 cookies Ingredients: 1 cup butter, softened (2 sticks) 1⁄2 cup sugar 2 1⁄2 cups flour Directions:  Preheat oven to 300° F. Cream butter and sugar together. Add flour slowly and mix till texture is like clay.…

New Starbucks Cups are Dressed for Spring

Ready. Set. Instagram! Starbucks just announced its first ever springtime hot beverage cups, which will come in three very photogenic pastel shades. The coffee company has a 20-year-running winter tradition of festive holiday cups, and while sometimes controversial, they always create buzz. These new spring cups will surely do the same. The cheery robin’s egg blue (Grande) , sunny yellow (Venti) and fresh green (Tall) will look perfect poised next to one of Starbucks new menu items on your social media this spring. The cups will also appear to feature a spring-related doodle such as a bunny or a shining sun. Some white circles appear to be blank — possibly allowing for customers to get creative and customize their cups. The cups are supposed to be a representation of the florals found in springtime and not the Christian Easter holiday. The cups will be available in the United States and Canada beginning March 16 for…
