Cadbury Creme Eggs Top Pizzas for an Easter Themed Twist

Forget the pepperoni. Put aside the pizza sauce. Easter 2017 is upon us and that means the world is about to be introduced to the Cadbury Creme Egg pizza. One London-based pizza maker teamed up with a British food delivery company, Deliveroo, to create the “Fior-egg-tina” — a twist on the Italian classic egg-topped Fiorentina. But before you get grossed out thinking about that creme center melting into your mozzarella, know that this is a completely different type of pie. A strawberry sauce base is topped with marscapone, mint leaves and Cadbury Creme Eggs halves, then sprinkled with crunchy mini eggs. It’s an unbelievable ode to one of the world’s most beloved Easter candies. The credit for this completely sweet pie goes to Crust Bros — but they’re only available via Deliveroo in London from April 7 through 14. As an American, if you’re upset this masterpiece isn’t available to you then…

Apple and Pizza Top List of America’s Favorite Pies

Millions of people around the world indulged in pie last week to celebrate the mathematical concept of pi (the Greek symbol used to represent 3.14159). The Harris Poll also celebrated by asking Americans about their favorite pie. As usual, apple pie reigns supreme (12%), but pizza comes in a close second (10%) and is, by far, the favorite type of pie among men ages 18-34 (25%). The most popular pizza topping in America continues to be pepperoni. 7 in 10 say the pie filling — not the crust — is the best part. Pie vs. cake When it comes to dessert overall, Americans are nearly evenly split, with a slight preference for cake (52%) over pie (48%) – particularly in the South, where about 6 in 10 prefer cake (61% South), but not in the Midwest where 58% of adults prefer pie. Women (56%) and young adults ages 18-34 (66%)…

From space to your place: 3D pizza printer coming soon

When you’re hungry in the future, you may be printing out your own pizza. A startup named BeeHex raised $1 million in seed funding to launch its first product, a pizza printer called Chef 3D. The concept started as a possible solution for supplying astronauts with enough food on long missions to outer space, but the company’s founders realized the opportunity in today’s current commercial market on Earth. BeeHex’s long-term goal, according to one founder, is to create a network of printers that are capable of producing customized snacks or meals on-the-spot. One day, customers may actually be able to use an app to select a food that corresponds to their health needs. The startup has earned the attention of lead investor and food automation expert Jim Grote, founder of Donatos Pizza chain of restaurants, who believes the technology could be used in high-volume pizza restaurants. BeHex cofounder Anjan Contractor said his company is currently…

What you should really stock up on for Coronavirus prep

With the coronavirus pandemic in full swing and “nonessential” businesses coast to coast closing their doors, Americans are facing the reality of two weeks stuck at home. While toilet paper and hand sanitizer have been flying off shelves, there are other things that make more sense in preparation for 14 days holed up at home. Supply chains are said to still be well in-tact, according to The New York Times, so there is no need for outright stockpiling food. In fact, shoppers rushing out and buying everything is sight is causing an inconvenient temporary and unnecessary shortage for other shoppers. Instead, stay calm and stock up on what you really need. Buying the right food, medicine, and cleaning supplies now can help you cut down on overall trips to the store, and less time in large public centers. But don’t just buy up anything and everything you see. You’ll put…

Putting in a bit of prep work to freeze it might help you save money, make less food waste, and have portions of cauliflower florets ready to go anytime you need them. Thawed cauliflower works best in cooked or sautéed. Since it loses a bit of firmness,…

What’s the difference between calzone and stromboli?

If you didn’t grow up with Italian food, you might think there isn’t much of a difference between a calzone and a stromboli. After all, both involve pizza dough stuffed with meat and cheese, so how different can they really be, right? Wrong! While there can be some confusion if you don’t know the language of Italian-American food, there is a actually a big difference, and here’s why. Their origins Calzones and stromboli can be traced to entirely different origins. Calzones are 100%-certified Italian food—from Italy. The original idea and recipes came from 18th century Naples where locals developed a casual way of eating a pizza on the go. In fact, the plural of calzone, calzoni, translates to “pant leg” or “trouser,” reflective of the fact that the calzone’s original purpose was to serve as a “walk around pizza.” Ingredients and techniques vary throughout different regions in Italy, just as…
