Where to get free donuts on National Doughnut Day 2019

Food-centric holidays seem to occur nearly every week. Not long ago we celebrated National Pretzel Day, just last week was National Hamburger Day, and we countdown to National Coffee Day every year. But unlike the obscure origins of these holidays, National Doughnut Day goes way back. The first National Doughnut Day was officially established in 1938 by the Salvation Army’s Chicago branch. The chapter revived the donut making tradition as a way to provide much-needed cheer and raise funds for people in need during the Great Depression. The day honored the women who made doughnuts for the soldiers during WWI as a way to boost morale. At their peak, the women could make and supply up to 9,000 doughnuts per day. National Doughnut Day has since become an American tradition and continues to be celebrated the first Friday in June. Many national and local doughnut chains offer freebies or discounts…

Dunkin’ Donuts officially drops ‘Donuts’ from name

After 68 years, Dunkin’ Donuts is officially changing its name. The popular donut and coffee chain announced Tuesday that it will no longer go by the moniker “Dunkin’ Donuts.” Instead, they’re just “Dunkin.” The name changes come after months of speculation and a few new restaurants opening under the new name. According to a press release, the “Donuts” drop “officially puts the company on a first name basis with customers.” The change will take place in January 2019, meaning, all the packaging and signage you see after that will just read “Dunkin.” Pushing on the “first name basis” thing, the company released this tweet: https://twitter.com/dunkindonuts/status/1044647776943058944 Some would argue that the name was simple enough, or that the common reference to “DD” was a better alternative. But regardless, Dunkin’ will still serve the same great coffee and delicious donuts, so, will it really matter? Also see, 8 ways to recycle used…

Chicken nugget donuts (or donugs) get warm reception in Australia

Doughnuts are great. And so are chicken nuggets. So how about combining them? An entrepreneur in Australia has invented the “donug,” which is basically a large chicken nugget in the shape of a doughnut. A Donug, quite simply is a hybrid of a Donut and a Chicken Nugget, but, in this case it is a completely savoury product made from chicken, our unique and top-secret flour and spice mix… and a crunchy panko and cornflake crust. This bad boy comes with our signature Cheesy Dijon Bechamel, Chilli Flakes and Black Salt. www.loveadonug.com #donug #donugs #loveadonug #melbournefood A post shared by Donugs (@loveadonug) on May 21, 2018 at 6:10pm PDT Crag Carrick and his wife Rachel Dutton, a chef, recently appeared on Australia’s version of “Shark Tank” and received a $100,000 investment to bring the product to the mainstream Down Under. The donug is made from free-range chicken and coated in…
