A restaurant totally devoted to Nutella is opening next week

All of your chocolatey dreams have come true. The world’s first Nutella cafe is opening in Chicago on May 31. Although other eateries may offer menus focusing on the rich, hazelnut spread, the Nutella Cafe is the first restaurant owned by Ferrero USA, so the entire restaurant experience is designed around the beloved brand. From the creamy color of the walls, to the hazelnut-shaped hanging lights, everything is inspired by Nutella. “It’s designed to make you feel like you’re actually walking into a jar of Nutella,” said Angela Baird, the director of operations at BIG Retail, who gave design consultation to Ferrero USA, told The Chicago Tribune. “Everything screams Nutella.” There are, of course, no shortage of Nutella menu items. Satisfy any craving with a Nutella filled croissant, waffles served with warm apples Nutella drizzle and toasted hazelnuts, or steel-cut oats topped with mixed berries, almond milk and, what else, Nutella.…

Mother’s Day is busiest day at KFC

Mom has a secret love she’s never shared all of these years. Mother’s Day is a big day for dining out. More than half of Americans celebrating Mother’s Day plan a special brunch or dinner. According to the National Retail Federation, 55.9 percent of mothers celebrating will get taken out for a special meal. But when we can assume Mom has her pick of places, where does she choose to dine? KFC. According to YUM Brands, KFC sees its best day of business all year on Mother’s Day. And it’s not even close. Single stores report sales jumps of 50 percent on the annual holiday. KFC says it serves about 370,000 families each Mother’s Day. That translates to 6.5 million pieces — or 1.5 million pounds — of chicken and 815,000 servings of mashed potatoes and gravy. So celebrate your favorite matriarch this Sunday with a box of chocolates and a bucket of…

Your favorite candy bars will have less calories by 2022

Candy companies are responding to consumer cries for healthier foods and smaller portion sizes. More than a dozen candy companies including Mars, Nestle, Ferrara, Lindt & Sprungli and Ferrero Rocher, promised the Partnership for a Healthier America, a foundation chaired by former first lady Michelle Obama, to reduce the size of 50 percent of their products to less than 200 calories by 2022, reported The Washington Post. As part of the initiative, the companies also agreed to include front-of-package nutrition information for no less than 90 percent of their products. “It’s a big commitment, and a big shift,” John Downs, chief executive of the National Confectioners Association told The Washington Post. But, he added, “obviously there’s an important and ongoing conversation around sugar in the U.S., and around the world … and our industry has been discussing how we can be a productive part of that conversation.” About 30 percent of American candies have already…

Deconstructing a Presidential Diet

In an era of healthy eating, President Trump is a throw-back to a time, when Americans ate whatever they want. He makes us long for the days when throwing back a BigMac with a Diet Coke and a bag of Lays didn’t garner judging glances from friends and familiar and casual passersby. Trump has been open about his love of fast food on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter posts. He famously broadcast a photo of himself tearing into a bucket of KFC chicken (while reading the Wall Street Journal), devouring a McDonald’s burger and digging in to a taco bowl. “One bad hamburger, you can destroy McDonald’s. One bad hamburger, you take Wendy’s and all these other places and they’re out of business,” Trump told CNN. “I’m a very clean person. I like cleanliness, and I think you’re better off going there than maybe someplace that you have no idea where the food’s coming from. It’s a certain standard.”…
