You can enter to win a KFC Colonel Sanders pool float

If you were hoping to spend your summer floating in the arms of an inflatable Colonel Sanders, you’re in luck. KFC is giving away several hundred oversized plastic pool toys that look just like the Colonel and hold a bucket of fast food giant’s famous fried chicken. But, you’ll need to fill out an entry form to get one of these bad boys — they’re not for sale. Deeming that “The best things in life are free,” instead, KFC is giving them away to a few hundred fortunate fans. If the float looks familiar, your TV game is strong. The oversized inflatable Sanders made an appearance in a recent KFC commercial announcing a new KFC sandwich called The Crispy Colonel. The ad featured actor George Hamilton lounging in the ocean, catching some sunshine, to give the sandwich name some literal imagery. https://www.instagram.com/p/BjKUC5qA1-q/?taken-by=kfc The inflatable is the latest in a long line of products…

Wisconsin man chows down on his 30,000th McDonald’s Big Mac

A warning for all the fast food lovers out there: this diet is not recommended. A retired Wisconsin prison guard ate his 30,000th Big Mac last week — 46 years after eating his first. WBAY-TV reports that Fond du Lac resident Don Gorske holds the Guinness World Record for eating the most Big Macs. The 64-year-old has eaten at least one Big Mac every day since May 17, 1972. “If I go for 40,000, that’ll take me another 14 years or whatever like that. I don’t think people celebrate 35,000 at all, so we’re probably looking at 14 more years down the road, and I’ll be 78 years old then! So we’ll have to see how I’m doing then, you know?” Gorske told WBAY-TV. Michael “Jim” Delligatti, a Pennsylvania-based McDonald’s franchisee, invented the Big Mac in 1967. Delligatti died in November 2016 at the age of 98. While the Big…

Krispy Kreme debuts new lemon doughnut for one week only

The folks at Krispy Kreme know how to keep customers coming back. People have loved the Original Glazed for decades, but it’s the string of new flavors like Nutter Butter, gingerbread and Reese’s Easter eggs that keep bringing new interest — all of which are only available for a limited time. America was asked to vote earlier this year, and after tallying more than 2 million entries, the Lemon Glazed Doughnut came out on top. The tangy treat will be available in stores for a full week, from Monday, April 23 to Sunday, April 29. If you like the original, and you like lemon, you’ll likely love the new Lemon Glaze Doughnut. It might remind you of a lemon pound cake drizzled with icing, but in doughnut form. “There has been so much anticipation and zest for the new Lemon Glaze Doughnut, we can’t wait to share the joy with our…

Starbucks offering $10 million to development of eco-friendly cup

Starbucks customers go through about 4 billion to-go cups every year — and almost all of those end up in a landfill. While it would seem the paper cups could easily be recycled, they are lined with non-recyclable plastic to help keep your coffee warm and the cup from leaking. But the Seattle-based coffee giant is finally taking steps to make the world a little greener. They’ve teamed with Closed Loop Partners, a group that invests in recycling technologies and sustainable goods, to create the NextGen Cup Challenge. The challenge will offer $10 million in grants to innovative entrepreneurs “working on ideas that could lead to the development of more sustainable cup solutions.” Current cups are made with 10 percent post-consumer recycled fiber, so depending on where you live, they might be partially recyclable, but the goal is to create a fully recyclable and even compostable cup no matter what corner of…
