America’s Favorite Ice Cream Flavor Revealed

The results are in, and vanilla reigns supreme as America’s favorite ice cream flavor. In celebration of National Ice Cream Month, which runs throughout the month of July, the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) conducted a survey to find the most loved flavors from coast to coast. The IDFA tabulated the top sellers from major ice cream manufacturers in the United States including Blue Bell, Unilever, Nestle, and members of the National Ice Cream Retailers Association, which likely includes your local mom and pop ice cream shop. Vanilla has been the top selling flavor for years, followed by chocolate, but the remaining 8 slots tend to vary. A restaurant totally devoted to Nutella is opening next week

All of your chocolatey dreams have come true. The world’s first Nutella cafe is opening in Chicago on May 31. Although other eateries may offer menus focusing on the rich, hazelnut spread, the Nutella Cafe is the first restaurant owned by Ferrero USA, so the entire restaurant experience is designed around the beloved brand. From the creamy color of the walls, to the hazelnut-shaped hanging lights, everything is inspired by Nutella. “It’s designed to make you feel like you’re actually walking into a jar of Nutella,” said Angela Baird, the director of operations at BIG Retail, who gave design consultation to Ferrero USA, told The Chicago Tribune. “Everything screams Nutella.” There are, of course, no shortage of Nutella menu items. Satisfy any craving with a Nutella filled croissant, waffles served with warm apples Nutella drizzle and toasted hazelnuts, or steel-cut oats topped with mixed berries, almond milk and, what else, Nutella.…

Your favorite candy bars will have less calories by 2022

Candy companies are responding to consumer cries for healthier foods and smaller portion sizes. More than a dozen candy companies including Mars, Nestle, Ferrara, Lindt & Sprungli and Ferrero Rocher, promised the Partnership for a Healthier America, a foundation chaired by former first lady Michelle Obama, to reduce the size of 50 percent of their products to less than 200 calories by 2022, reported The Washington Post. As part of the initiative, the companies also agreed to include front-of-package nutrition information for no less than 90 percent of their products. “It’s a big commitment, and a big shift,” John Downs, chief executive of the National Confectioners Association told The Washington Post. But, he added, “obviously there’s an important and ongoing conversation around sugar in the U.S., and around the world … and our industry has been discussing how we can be a productive part of that conversation.” About 30 percent of American candies have already…

Hershey’s Builds Website Made Entirely of Chocolate

The biggest problem with the internet is that you can’t directly eat it. Hershey’s Brazil marketing executives recently sought to correct this digital shortcoming and designed a website that replaced real objects with chocolate ones that were then raffled off to fans across the country. Emojis and animals, a tornado, YouTube’s “play” button, a surfboard and even the Colosseum were all made out of solid chocolate — both milk and white. The promotion was created by agency Aktuellmix and was titled “#Eaternet.” After drooling over the page for a while, visitors were encouraged to go purchase a Hershey’s bar at their nearest store and then return to enter the code on the wrapper for a chance to win their favorite chocolatey piece of the site. Word spread throughout Brazil and the promotion was wildly successful. (Is giving away free chocolate ever not going to be a success?) Winners came from all corners of the country, so the…

And more than 40% of people say a heart-shaped box makes the gift even sweeter, according to a survey conducted by the National Confectioners Association. “Candy plays an important role in helping people celebrate special occasions like Valentine’s Day,” John Downs, president & CEO of the National Confectioners Association is quoted saying on the NCA website. More than 40 million heart-shaped chocolate boxes were sold for Valentine’s Day. Caramel-flavored chocolates topping the list. Chocolate-covered nuts are a close second. Valentine’s Day is a day to celebrate love, but what would this holiday be without chocolate? Because we can all seemingly agree that chocolate is the best part of the day (any day, really),…
