Pizza put 2,300 people in the hospital last year

Pizza is more dangerous than you think! The cheesy dinner option is always a great choice of food for any occasion, but according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), saucy pies landed 2,300 people in the hospital last year with pizza-related-injuries. From lacerations from cutting pizza to burns and molten cheese, it seems everyone’s favorite food has a dark side. Others wound up getting treated for injuries resulting from falling in a pizza joint or even falling out of bed while reaching for a pizza — don’t act like pizza in bed isn’t a thing. The pizza stats were part of a the CPSC’s National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS) injury report release associated with consumer products and emergency room visits. Pizza isn’t the only food product landing people in the hospital. In 2017, there were so many people cutting themselves attempting to slice avocado, “avocado hand” is…

Kale pesto pizza is delicious, healthy option for pizza lovers

We’re never too old for a simple slice of cheese pizza, but the best part of being an adult might actually be the whole new world of pizza toppings we open ourselves up to. Seriously — you probably started to order veggies, and even things like pears, on your pizza somewhere around the time you got excited you could pay all your bills on time. Since then, you’ve never looked back. The great pizza awakening also means you no longer need red sauce to consider it a proper pie, so I don’t need to tell you that pesto can go on pizza. But wait! What if I said that this pesto can be made of kale — the ultimate adult vegetable — and you’re going to love it! My friends (adults when they want to be) were shocked to find out my pesto sauce was made with kale instead of the basic basil they…

All-you-can-eat pizza festival runs out of pizza

An all-you-can-eat pizza festival really only needs to have one thing: pizza. Well, organizers of an event — the Notting Hill Pizza Festival in England — were left saying dough (err doh)! Bellmonte Life ran the event and blamed a broken oven and “overzealous appetites.” Lines lasted an hour for a single slice of pizza, hardly what you’d expect at what should have been a buffet. Two tickets — that promised unlimited pizza — cost around $32, so a piece every hour or so did not satisfy the crowd. This Notting Hill ‘unlimited’ pizza festival is a disaster @bellmontelife. Been here one hour, queued for 50 mins, managed to get 1 slice of pizza so far. Joke. pic.twitter.com/4bicd9VbtI — Alex White (@ATYWhite) May 12, 2018 And when festival-goers actually got a slice, it didn’t look that great: Notting Hill #Pizza Festival is not a good experience AVOID AT ALL COSTS…

JetBlue will fly NYC pizzas cross-country for delivery in LA

If you’ve ever felt the delivery area for Uber eats was just too darn small, let JetBlue give you hope for the future. In an amazing marketing stunt dubbed “Pie in the Sky,” the domestic airline carrier will travel cross-county to deliver authentic New York-style pizzas of the iconic Patsy’s Pizzeria of East Harlem to Los Angeles residents. Between May 9 and May 11, JetBlue will fly a total of 350 cheese and pepperoni pies from JFK to LAX each day. A team on the ground in LA will then see that it makes it directly to your door. And considering the cost of fuel and the salary of a professional pilot as your delivery driver, cheese is a very reasonable $12 and pepperoni $15. Ordering opens on www.jetblue.pizza at 12 a.m. PDT daily throughout the promotion. Patsy’s opened in East Harlem in 1933, and is one of the oldest…

In-N-Out Burger voted America’s favorite fast-food restaurant again

One fast-food joint continues to attract fans from all across America — even if they’re only found on one coast. For the second year in a row, In-N-Out Burger has topped Market Force’s annual customer survey of the nation’s favorite quick-serve restaurant chains. Despite being famously limited to the West Coast, the beloved California-based burger chain earned a 76 percent rating in customer loyalty — higher than any restaurant in any category. In-N-Out has more than 300 locations, all in western states. But there’s competition on the horizon. While In-N-Out Burger won Market Force’s survey last year, Five Guys won out in the separate Harris Poll last year. Chick-Fil-A fans voted the chicken chain second place with an overall ranking and 73 percent in customer loyalty. Other big winners include Culver’s, a burger chain originating in Wisconsin now found in 24 states with 66 percent loyalty, and Raising Cane’s, another specialty chicken restaurant.…

Berlin chef bakes cheesiest pizza in the world with 111 different types of cheese

You may think you love cheese pizza, but that three cheese pizza you ordered last night — it’s mere child’s play to the impressive feat of formage one restaurant whipped up last month. A Berlin restaurant created a pie topped with an astounding 111 different types of cheese. It officially earned the title of world’s cheesiest pizza and a place in the Guinness World Record books. According to Guinness officials, the finished pizza included mozzarella, Leicestershire red, Emmental, Comte, and Raclette among dozens of others. https://youtu.be/dHlw2P819NE If you’re imagining a giant pizza, one big enough to hold lots of shredded dairy, you’ll be forgiven. The chef pulled off the feat with a regular-sized pie, just a few centimeters bigger than your usual take-out order. All 111 cheeses were painstakingly weighed so that just 2.6g of each type were included. All told, it had a whopping 288.6 grams of cheese within the walls of the crust. After…

More than 40 percent of Americans eat pizza every week

Your waistline probably already knew this, but pizza is a staple of the American diet. So much so that 43 percent of us eat it at least once a week and 83 percent of us eat it at least once per month. For some of us “at least” are the operative words there. The statistics come from new data analyzed and reported in Technomic’s 2018 Pizza Consumer Trend Report.  Other emerging trends in the report found customers’ have a desire for more authentic pizza offerings (49 percent). No longer willing to just lump all pizza as “Italian” customers want regional pizza experiences, so Italian pizzas from specific areas of the country are on the rise, as is the preference for American favorites. New York-style pizzas, West Coast-style pizzas and even St. Louis-style and Chicago-style are seeing an increased interest in their respective regions. When deciding where to purchase pies, 44 percent of consumers said that high-quality ingredients…

Study says pizza can make you a more productive person

A recent study showed what office workers around the world already knew — the promise of pizza is good for productivity. The discovery was made by psychologist Dan Ariely and explained in further detail in his book Payoff: The Hidden Logic That Shapes Our Motivations. Pizza proves to be the biggest motivator — more than even cash or compliments. Ariel’s experiment used four separate groups of employees at an Intel semiconductor factory in Israel. Workers were to receive rewards for their increased productivity. One group was offered a bonus payment of about $30. Another group was offered pizza. A third group would receive a compliment from their boss, and the fourth group was offered nothing. Ariel found that cash and compliments didn’t do as much to motivate the workers as the pizza — initially. The Cut reported that after the first day, the pizza group increased productivity by 6.7 percent over…

Pick pizza over cereal for a healthier breakfast

Grabbing that cold, leftover slice of pizza in the morning might not be such a bad decision after all. It turns out, there are tons of pizzas out there that could be better for you than your favorite breakfast cereal. Registered dietician Chelsey Amer told The Daily Meal, “You may be surprised to find out that an average slice of pizza and a bowl of cereal with whole milk contain nearly the same amount of calories. However, pizza packs a much larger protein punch, which will keep you full and boost satiety throughout the morning.” Sure, pizza isn’t exactly a health food. But when you compare it to the nutritional profiles of most common store-bought cereals, it is a more balanced way to start a day. Amer said, “A slice of pizza contains more fat and much less sugar than most cold cereals, so you will not experience a quick sugar crash.”…
