Bruegger’s and Einstein Bros. baking red, white, and blue bagels to fuel your Fourth of July morning

For the love of carbs! Start your Fourth of July morning in the most delicious AND patriotic way possible — red, white, and blue bagels. Both Bruegger’s and Einstein Bros are baking up their own tri-colored bagel beauties for your Fourth of July celebration this year. The bagels are made with the same recipe as a plain bagel, but food coloring is added to give them their swirled red, white, and blue appearance. Participating Einstein Bros. locations are taking pre-orders, and you can pick them up from July 2 to 4, 2019. Participating Bruegger’s are also accepting pre-orders. Place your order now through July 2 for pick-up July 3 or July 4. Both restaurants will stock the bagels in-store so you can swing by and pick them up last minute, but they’ll only be available while supplies last. So if you’re banking on red, white, and blue bagels to start your…

Patriotic Rice Krispie Treats Flags are perfect for summer holidays

Serve these Patriotic Rice Krispie Treats Flags this summer and you’ll be waving goodbye to them in no time! You’re never too old for Rice Krispie Treats — especially when they’re this fun! Try these red, white, and blue beauties at your patriotic summer party. These Flags aren’t difficult to make, but they do require three separate batches of Krispies — one for each color. You’ll also need to wait for them to harden a bit before cutting. But the results are worth it. Aren’t they too irresistible not to make this summer? I found the little edible star decorations at my everyday grocery store, so you might have some luck at yours, too. White or silver would have been nice. I only found gold, but figured that I think that works, too! Star-spangled Rice Krispie Treats Ingredients 1 large box Kellogg’s Rice Krispies Cereal 3 10-ounce bags of mini marshmallows…

Patriotic thumbprint cookies

Where I’m from, thumbprint cookies seem to have a place at every holiday get-together. For Christmas and Easter we roll them in nuts and make icing centers coordinate with the season. At Valentine’s Day, we make them chocolate. And now for Fourth of July we dress them up with star sprinkles. These thumbprint cookies have a delicious sweet and tangy flavor. The vanilla and raspberry are perfect companions. And the red, white, blue sprinkles make them fun and ready for the Fourth! Patriotic thumbprint cookies Makes about 3 dozen cookies Ingredients 2 3/4 cups all purpose flour 2 tsp baking powder 1/4 tsp salt 1 cup butter, room temperature 1 cup white sugar 2 tsp vanilla extract 1 egg white icing 1/4 cup sprinkles 1/8 cup raspberry jam Directions Line cookie sheet with aluminum foil and set aside. Preheat oven to 350ºF. In a small bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder and salt. Set…

Star spangled ice cream sandwiches

Ice cream sandwiches already scream summer, but with a little makeover, they can be the coolest Fourth of July treat at the table. Okay, this “recipe” is basically cheating. But if you want to add a little fun to your Fourth of July without any effort — literally, like zero effort — then you’ll love this simple trick. Buy a pack of ice cream sandwiches from the grocery store — or ice cream truck! I went for the mini sandwiches since there are always so many delicious treats at picnics. Smaller sizes mean you can sample more sweets. They also mean less mess, since they won’t have as much time to melt.  Pour some sprinkles in a bowl, and get rolling. Just like an ice cream cone with sprinkles, the extra taste and texture is delicious — and way more fun! Happy Fourth of July! Star spangled ice cream sandwiches Ingredients 1 dozen ice cream…
