What you can order that’s vegan-friendly at McDonald’s

Burger King is getting vegan love because of its Impossible Whopper. Taco Bell has a long list of vegan offerings. Even Chick-fil-A has delicious options for vegans in a pinch. But what about the most ubiquitous fast food chain of them all. What can vegans eat at McDonald’s? The storied restaurant chain best know for its burgers and chicken nuggets doesn’t exactly seem like a place that veggie-lovers would enjoy. Unfortunately, they’re mostly right. It is true that McDonalds doesn’t offer any vegan-certified items, and it’s also true that a lot of the foods you might mistake as vegan actually aren’t. The famously tasty french fries and hashbrowns include “natural beef flavor” made from milk derivates. Even the smoothies contain kosher gelatin. Still, if you’re a vegan who isn’t afraid of a low risk of a little cross-contamination with meat items, there are a few mostly safe menu items you…

McDonald’s still America’s favorite fast food restaurants, survey says

McDonald’s fans are still lovin’ it. In a recent survey for more than 2,000 adults, McDonald’s came out as the clear favorite fast food restaurant thanks to several categories including value and speed of service. Wendy’s claimed second place, Burger King followed in third place. Subway and KFC rounded out the top five. According to Yahoo! Finance, the survey, conducted by UBS Evidence Lab surveyed 2,029 adults who visited fast-casual restaurants at least once a month. McDonald’s beat its competitors in a number of categories, but when it comes to fast-food, it seems price matters most. Survey respondents cited McDonald’s good value and promotions as their top two reasons for choosing the burger behemoth. Interestingly, diners also cited those two categories as the only  reasons that would make them visit McDonald’s restaurants more often. After good values and promotions, the top reasons respondents cited for preferring one fast food restaurant…

Shamrock shakes return to McDonald’s menus nationwide

Birds chirping and snow melting are all well and good, but the first sign of spring for many is the return of the McDonald’s Shamrock Shake. The popular minty green milkshake is officially back on the menu, the company confirmed in a Tweet. Thirsty fans can find the creamy confection using a new feature on the McDonald’s mobile app that tracks which restaurant locations are selling the beverage or by using the Shamrock Shake Finder. https://twitter.com/McDonalds/status/1095714184363458561 For those not in-the-know, Shamrock Shakes — or Shammies — are made by blending McDonald’s vanilla soft serve with minty shamrock shake syrup and topped with whipped cream and a cherry. Since the beverage debuted in 1970, it has earned an impressive following. More than 6 million Shamrock Shakes have been sold. Much like the McRib, Shamrock Shakes are only available at McDonalds for a limited time, while supplies last. This year, you can…

This is the fastest drive-thru chain in America

It’s called “fast food” because it’s meant to be made, assembled, packaged and in your hands in mere minutes. But not all drive-thru dining establishments can deliver on this promise. There is, however, one fast food chain that delivers your order in the blink of an eye. A QSR Magazine study found that when you really need your order in a hurry, Burger King is the way to go. The restaurant chain best known for its flame broiled burgers was the fastest drive-thru chain in America in 2018. The study found that it only took three minutes and 13 seconds from the point of ordering, to the moment the order arrived in the hands of the customer. https://www.instagram.com/p/BmOKSFFnPUV/?taken-by=burgerking Trailing Burger King’s record came Dunkin’, Wendy’s, Taco Bell, Arby’s, Carl’s Jr., Hardee’s, Chick-fil-A, and McDonald’s — in that order. (Popular In-N-Out Burger and Bojangles’ were not included in the study because…

This state has the most fast-food restaurants per capita

No matter what state you live in the U.S., you’re never a far drive from a fast-food restaurant. In fact, in the lower 48, you can never be more than 107 miles away from the nearest McDonald’s, meaning that no motorist is ever more than a tank of gas away from filling up on Big Macs and fries. But residents of some states have a lot more options than others. If you live in Alabama, you can’t go far without running into a few. The southern state comes in first, with the most fast-food restaurants per capita. There are 6.3 restaurants for every 10,000 Alabamians, according to a recent report from Datafiniti, a web data company. Nebraska comes in second with 5.4 restaurants per 10,000 residents. West Virginia and Oklahoma tie for third with 5.3 locations per 10,000 residents. Vermont turned up as having the least available fast-food options with just 1.9 restaurants…

This is how many calories your drunk fast food stop is costing you, study shows

Anyone who has even stayed out late drinking knows that inevitably someone suggests a stop for greasy fast food on the ride home. There’s a reason why places like Taco Bell and Waffle House are open until the sun is practically up. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that this kind of food isn’t doing your diet any favors, but it’s hard not to take a peek at just how extensive the damage. Rehabs.com is responsible for dropping this guilt bomb on your day. The educational website surveyed more than 5,900 people about their post-heavy drinking habits to gather data on national trends. Across the country, McDonald’s and Waffle House are two of the most well-loved, late night options. Denny’s, IHOP and Wendy’s are also top finishers. But the most popular post-heavy drinking food stop was none other than Taco Bell (did you really think it would be anywhere else?). Despite Taco Bell’s sizable healthy…

Wisconsin man chows down on his 30,000th McDonald’s Big Mac

A warning for all the fast food lovers out there: this diet is not recommended. A retired Wisconsin prison guard ate his 30,000th Big Mac last week — 46 years after eating his first. WBAY-TV reports that Fond du Lac resident Don Gorske holds the Guinness World Record for eating the most Big Macs. The 64-year-old has eaten at least one Big Mac every day since May 17, 1972. “If I go for 40,000, that’ll take me another 14 years or whatever like that. I don’t think people celebrate 35,000 at all, so we’re probably looking at 14 more years down the road, and I’ll be 78 years old then! So we’ll have to see how I’m doing then, you know?” Gorske told WBAY-TV. Michael “Jim” Delligatti, a Pennsylvania-based McDonald’s franchisee, invented the Big Mac in 1967. Delligatti died in November 2016 at the age of 98. While the Big…

U.K. proposes ban on plastic straws, drink stirrers and cotton swabs

In a sweeping movement to help reduce the amount of non-recyclable consumer waste, the U.K. government has announced plans to ban the sale of plastic straws, stirrers and plastic-stemmed cotton swabs. “Plastic waste is one of the greatest environmental challenges facing the world,” Prime Minister Theresa May announced in a statement on Wednesday, in which she called the U.K. government to be “a world leader on this issue.” Downing Street also said in the statement that it would work with industry in developing alternatives and ensuring “there is sufficient time to adapt.” The proposal would exempt plastic straws used for medical reasons. The ban is a small step in an overall effort to reduce plastic pollution from finding its way into the Earth’s oceans. According to the announcement, 150 million tons of plastic find its way to the water each year. This trash is responsible for killing one million birds and…
