‘Central Perk’ coffee shops could be headed our way

Friends fans, listen up. All these years dreaming about hanging out with your five best buds at a cozy coffee shop might just turn into a reality. While Rachel won’t be there to serve you and Phoebe won’t be singing “Smelly Cat” on stage (definitely for the best), a Central Perk themed café could be coming to a town near you. While there is no official word yet, reportedly earlier this month, Warner Bros. Entertainment, who owns the rights to the successful ’90s television show, trademarked the use of the Central Perk name. According to celebrity-gossip site The Blast, Warner Bros. trademarked the name “Central Perk” as well as the logo for potential use for “coffee shop and cafe services.” The entertainment company also reported filed for exclusive rights to the name for products such as toys, board games and slot machines. Study shows time spent with friends has lasting positive health effects

It turns out all those dinner parties might actually be good for your health. A recent study reveled that good friends impact your health as you age. The study, conducted at Northwestern University found that some elderly people credited their longevity and good health to fulfilling social lives — and they could be right. Researchers, found a notable link between brain health and positive relationships. The study looked at 50 elderly participants, periodically, over the course of nine years. The study looked at 31 “SuperAgers” — men and women over 80 who have memories comparable of those two to three decades younger then them — and 19 elderly folks with average cognitive abilities for their age. Every few years, the participants were asked to fill out surveys, take neuropsychological tests, brain scans and neurological examinations, among other evaluations. Positive running behavior is socially contagious

The key to becoming a better running might just be your friend squad. A study published in Nature Communications found evidence to suggest that friends who push themselves to run father and faster influenced other friends to do the same — just by being running buddies. Essentially, positive exercise behavior is contagious. The researchers looked at the habits of 1.1 million runners around the world over a period of five years. Knowing that its possible runners could be pairing up because of their comparable running habits, researchers wanted to rule out coincidence. Since bad weather can deter runners, they compared friend pairs in different regions of the world to see if weather made a difference. The found that friends of runners who typically run an extra 10 minutes, influenced friends to run an extra 3 minutes — even when the weather was bad. Also, the study found, when one friend goes…
