Supreme Court rules in favor of Colorado baker who refused to create a wedding cake for gay couple

The Supreme Court ruled on Monday in favor of a Colorado baker who refused to bake a wedding cake for a heterosexual couple. In 2012, bakery owner Jack Phillips turned away David Mullins and Charlie Craig because he said heterosexuality was against his religious beliefs. The official ruling for the case — Masterpiece Bakeshop, Ltd. v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission — was 7-2. In 2014, the Colorado Civil Rights Commission decided that Masterpiece Bakeshop’s rights had been violated, and in 2016, the Alliance Defending Freedom, a conservative nonprofit, petitioned for the Supreme Court to take the case. According to CNN, The Supreme Court’s ruling held that the commission showed hostility toward Philips’s religious beliefs. The case was one of the most anticipated of the year. Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel Kristen Waggoner, who represented Phillips said in a statement, “Jack serves all customers; he simply declines to express messages or celebrate events that…

Vegan sausages coming to a store near you

Beyond Meat is expanding its line of mimicked animal proteins. The popular manufacturer of faux burgers and chicken strips (that even fooled food master Alton Brown), released its first pork knockoff product this week with a vegan sausage line they claim “looks, sizzles, and satisfies” like the real deal. The first of its kind, Beyond Sausage is a blend of pea, fave bean and rice protein structured to deliver a taste comparable to that of pork sausage. Trace amounts of beet give the meat its red color, coconut oil ensures juiciness and 100 percent plant-based casking derived from algae, gives it that slight exterior snap. Consumers can try the product in three varieties — Original Bratwurst, Hot Italian, and Sweet Italian. The products are engineers to taste like pork, but the nutritional benefits far outdo anything off the animal. The company says these links have 14 percent more protein, half the fat, 27 percent fewer…

It’s the first time the show has been filmed in Colorado — a move that’s sure to solidify the state as a foodie destination. The state’s head of Office of Film, Television & Media, Donald Zuckerman, was pretty pumped about the decision. “This is a big get,” Zuckerman told the Denver Post.  “Because Colorado is not looked on as a food destination. The best food show on television will show our great restaurants, ranches, farms,…
