His insight and wisdom encouraged us to climb out of our shells and explore the world, its food, and its cultures whenever possible. He was as much an award-winning wordsmith as he was a teacher, an explorer, and a foul-mouthed comedian. Below is a small collection of Bourdain’s thoughts on food, cooking and living life. On eating adventurously I’ve long believe that good food, good eating, is all about risk. Whether we’re talking about unpasteurized Stilton, raw oysters or working for organized crime ‘associates,’ food, for me, has always been an adventure.” On vegetarians To me, life without veal stock, pork fat, sausage, organ meat, demi-glace, or even stinky cheese is a life not worth living.” On living life If I’m an advocate for anything, it’s to move.…

Celebrity chefs have tons of unusual, creative recipes they’re individually known for, but what happens when we ask them to take us back to the basics? Check out the footage below to see if you can pick up any pointers from the pros. Or maybe you’ll decide your way was right all along! Anthony Bourdain https://youtu.be/sBJESSMD8qA Anthony Bourdain’s declares his simple style as “old school.” “Like a lot of simple things, people find a way to overcomplicate them and screw them up.” Bourdain leaves out any additions like milk or cream, and makes his morning egg just about the egg. He recommends cracking them into an intermediate bowl and beating, but not over-beating, the eggs. Gordon ramsey https://youtu.be/PUP7U5vTMM0 Ramsay’s fluffy scrambled eggs are…

How your favorite chefs make mashed potatoes

If there’s one side dish we can all agree deserves a spot on the Thanksgiving table it’s mashed potatoes, but how exactly those spuds are smashed will vary in every home across the country. Not all cooking methods are created equal, so we consulted our favorite celebrity chefs for tips on how to take this traditional holiday dish to the next level. Ina Garten The Barefoot Contessa swears that Yukon Gold potatoes, with their slightly yellow color, are the best variety for mashed tots. She runs them through a food mill, then adds rich butter and sour cream for this good old-fashioned comfort food. https://youtu.be/pTJMM4yusMg ALTON BROWN Alton and Ina must share recipes. This recipe is remarkably close to Ina’s, but it’s probably more of a professional consensus that this is, in fact, one of the best ways to make mashed potatoes. Alton also swears by running Yukon Gold potatoes through a food mill then adding butter, heavy cream,…

Soon, Brad Pitt will be able to add the title “hotelier” to his resume. The actor, activist, producer and father of six is the latest celebrity to step into the world of hospitality. People magazine reported Pitt’s plans to open a new luxury resort in Croatia. The massive development will break ground in at the small coastal town of Zablace and will also include a hotel, villa, shops, a golf course, and several restaurants, the Telegraph reports. The project is estimated to cost more than $1.5 billion and will be “a modern ecologically-responsible planned community.” The 52-year-old actor recently stayed overnight in Sibenik’s new Dogusevon Hotel, toured the town and embarked on a walking tour with a team of 10 people around the proposed site of his new investment. Among them was Nikola Basic, creator of the celebrated Sea Organ, a giant culture that creates music as water is passed through its…

Alton Brown’s tips for never messing up a recipe again

You’ve diligently worked all day on a recipe, and it’s finally time for the first taste. You, dig in for a heaping forkful of the fruits of your labor only to find something isn’t right. Alton Brown knows every cook has been there so he offered his insanely simple solution: read the recipe. Like, actually take time to read and digest everything it’s telling you to do. Most recipe mishaps can easily be avoided, he says. The problem is that we don’t take the time to grasp exactly what a recipe is calling for. We may do a quick scan before beginning to cook or bake, but we don’t focus on detail words that can make all of the difference. On his website, Brown wrote, “According to my calculations, about 30 percent of the dishes prepared from written recipes go wrong because the cooks concerned didn’t actually read said recipe. Sure, we glance at them…

Jeff Goldblum Serves up Sneaky Sausage from Food Truck in Sydney

Jeff Goldblum, the accomplished actor and jazz pianist, can now add sausage chef to his resumé. The movie star, arguably best known for his role as Dr. Ian Malcolm in 1993’s Jurassic Park, was spotted handing out sausage sandwiches from a food truck parked in Sydney, Australia’s Wynyard Park. Adding to the mystique, the side of the black and white vehicle was marked “Chef Goldblum’s Jazzy Snags” and was emblazoned with an image of the actor’s face. Goldblum offered no explanation for the stunt, but apparently none was needed. People lined up around the block for a free sausage sandwich. (With or without Goldblum, who wouldn’t!) The Daily Telegraph tried to get Goldblum to spill the secrets of the food stand, but he remained cryptic. ” I was doing the Thor movie on the Gold Coast some time ago, but now I’m doing a project that I have to be secretive about, but…

Rihanna’s Personal Chef Gives Us Insight to the Pop Star’s diet

If you’ve ever wondered what pop stars eat and who cooks for them, Bon Appétit recently cooked up an interview with Rihanna’s person chef, Debbie Soloman. In the interview, they discuss everything from how she landed the job to what she cooks for the famous multiplatinum-selling artist and shoe designer. The Jamaican-born chef credits Rihanna’s mom for helping her learn the nuances of the Barbadian and Guyanese food Rihanna grew up eating in Barbados and often requests, but Soloman said Rihanna is a “moody eater,” so the pop star doesn’t decide what she wants to eat until that day, rather than planning out a menu for the week. Rihanna eats “every protein that you can think of,” along with vegetables, rice, and pasta. The singer and chef also travel with a case of spices that includes bouillon-like maggi cubes, curry, jeera (also known as cumin seeds), Old Bay seasoning, adobo, and five-spice, as well as…

8 restaurants owned by former NFL players

Former NFL players. Present foodies. Most athletes will spend the majority of their time focusing solely on their skills. They will clock endless off-field hours fine-tuning their physiques so they stay at the top of their game. The most successful and marketable athletes will spend time, with the help of an agent, crafting a public persona — giving interviews, attending fan events, endorsements and appearances. After a physically challenging career, most athletes will disappear from the public eye to a world of beautiful houses, cars and chiropractor visits. Others will get in to commentary. Still others will pursue a different industry all-together: food service. What is it about athletes that makes us flock to their restaurants? Maybe we think athletes know something about nutrition. This might be true, except most of their restaurants revolve around red meat. Maybe we feel a solidarity with the other diners. Or maybe we think, somehow,…
