Americans had a lot of questions about blood pressure in 2019. They also wondered about the keto diet, hiccups and more. These three topics were among the top 10 most-searched health-related questions, according to new data from Google. The list tabulated our trillions of collective searches between January and early December of 2019. In 2018, the most-searched health-related questions typed into good were about amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), endometriosis, and how long does weed stay in your urine. When you have a question that simply must be answered, it’s Google to the rescue. Each year, the world’s most popular search engine analyzes our collective trillions of search queries, and delivers its Year in Search report, featuring the year’s most-searched topics in news, sports, entertainment, and of course food and beverage. The most-searched data for 2019 reflects those searches that had a high spike in traffic compared to the same topic in 2018—so we know it’s truly a 2019 trend. The search engine then filters out spam and repeat queries. So, what did we have an interest in searching for in 2019? Drink recipes Classic drinks saw an increased interest this year. Starbucks releases 2019 holiday cups

And the holiday season has officially begun. Starbucks announced the much-anticipated return of its annual holiday cups, just days after Dunkin’ came out with its new decked-out designs. The new designs feature a modern block letters, polka dots and pops of holiday colors. Coffee lovers across the U.S. and Canada can kick off the holiday season beginning Nov. 7 with the four brand-new designs: Polka Dots, which is basically a traditional red cup dotted with green circles; Merry Dance, has red and green letters spelling out ‘MERRY COFFEE’ overlaying a white cup; Merry Stripes uses a dark green cup and features small white lettering spelling out ‘MERRY COFFEE’, and Candy Cane Stripe is adorned with red and white stripes and large, green letters spelling out ‘STARBUCKS.’ According to the official press release, they’re meant to “evoke mini moments of joy for our customers and partners — it’s fun, festive, and…

Merriam-Webster adds ‘umami,’ ‘ghost pepper,’ ‘go-cup’ and more to dictionary

The English language never stops expanding, and neither does the dictionary. This past week, the editors at Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary added more than 600 new words, among them, a handful of food-related terms that are sure to come up in your food-loving life. In order for new words to make the cut, editors must find that a word is in frequent, widespread and meaningful use — all three of these factors must be in play. Several new words don’t seem new at all. Words you’ve been using for years, like “ghost pepper,” “java,” and “chai latte,” will have you wondering how they’re not already in official status.
