New entries join junk foods masquerading as breakfast cereal

Are some cereal manufacturers even trying to hide the fact that they’re more akin to junk food than a healthy start to the day? Back in the 1970s and ’80s, the biggest culprit was Cookie Crisp — basically little chocolate chip cookies (that were fortified with eight vitamins and iron!) Now, there are some new entries joining the crowd, hitting store shelves in the past few weeks, as seen below: Post’s Peanut Butter and Cocoa Pebbles joins its cousins Fruity Pebbles, Cocoa Pebbles and Cinnamon Pebbles. (Did we mention there’s also a Marshmallow Fruity Pebbles?) But wait – there’s more! In addition to Golden Oreo O’s, Post will also release a new Nilla Banana Pudding cereal, available at Walmart beginning in June! This is a spin on the classic dessert made with Nilla wafers – the cereal is banana flavored AND has mini marshmallows. After an initial taste test, I’ll…

Reese’s offering $10K, free candy to its most ‘Outrageous’ fan

Do you love peanut butter and chocolate? We mean, really love it? To celebrate the launch of its new Reese’s Outrageous bar, the company is giving away $10,000 and a year’s supply of candy to one true fan. The Outrageous bar is similar to the Nutrageous bar, but it swaps out the peanuts with bits of tiny Reese’s Pieces. Food & Wine had the chance for an early taste test last year, and this is how they described it: “The core of the bar is Reese’s classic, salty peanut butter with a layer of caramel surrounding it. That’s all enrobed by chocolate dotted with dozens of mini Reese’s Pieces. The candy shells of the Pieces add an extra crunch without making the whole thing too crumbly. Perhaps most surprisingly, the Outrageous! bar is not all that sweet. It’s definitely a peanut butter lover’s candy.” To enter the contest, fans can post photos and…

All-you-can-eat pizza festival runs out of pizza

An all-you-can-eat pizza festival really only needs to have one thing: pizza. Well, organizers of an event — the Notting Hill Pizza Festival in England — were left saying dough (err doh)! Bellmonte Life ran the event and blamed a broken oven and “overzealous appetites.” Lines lasted an hour for a single slice of pizza, hardly what you’d expect at what should have been a buffet. Two tickets — that promised unlimited pizza — cost around $32, so a piece every hour or so did not satisfy the crowd. This Notting Hill ‘unlimited’ pizza festival is a disaster @bellmontelife. Been here one hour, queued for 50 mins, managed to get 1 slice of pizza so far. Joke. pic.twitter.com/4bicd9VbtI — Alex White (@ATYWhite) May 12, 2018 And when festival-goers actually got a slice, it didn’t look that great: Notting Hill #Pizza Festival is not a good experience AVOID AT ALL COSTS…
