We all know that cooking at home saves money and means you’re probably eating healthier. But with existence of GrubHub, DoorDash, UberEats, and others, staying in your PJS and having food delivered right to your door is particularly tempting. Especially for residents of certain cities.

DNA testing company Vitagene used government data to collect information on the average number of meals Americans eat out each week, how much money overall is spent eating out annually, and grocery costs, to come up with a graph which shows which US cities spend the most on takeout.

The results?

Seattle, home of the tech hungry hubs of Amazon and Microsoft, is also the home of the hungriest for takeout. Emerald city residents spend on average $210 a month on takeout, for an annual bill of $2,520!

Pittsburgh came in second, averaging $199 a month of takeout spending. San Fransisco spent the third highest with $195 a month. Austin, TX; San Jose, CA; and San Antonio, TX rounded out the top five.

On the opposite end of the trend is Detroit, where people spend the least — just $142 per month on takeout. Memphis, TN; Richmond, VA; Cleveland, OH; and Birmingham, AL took the next four spots.

Of course, in many of these cities, it’s cheaper to order takeout than others. For example, you can order takeout in Detroit for much less than in San Fransisco. So Vitagene offered a look at cities where residents spend the highest percentage of their annual income on food outside the home.

The highest percentage award goes to Cleveland’s, where even though they spend one of the lowest dollar amounts, it still amounts to a large chunk of their annual income. Miami, Rochester, and Detroit are all also guilty of spending more than 6% of their annual income on takeout.
