When you have a question that simply must be answered, it’s Google to the rescue. Each year, the world’s most popular search engine analyzes our collective trillions of search queries, and delivers its Year in Search report, featuring the year’s most-searched topics in news, sports, entertainment, and of course food and beverage.

The most-searched data for 2019 reflects those searches that had a high spike in traffic compared to the same topic in 2018—so we know it’s truly a 2019 trend. The search engine then filters out spam and repeat queries.

So, what did we have an interest in searching for in 2019?

Drink recipes

Classic drinks saw an increased interest this year. Sex on the beach, hot tottie (even though it’s really spelled “toddy”), buttery nipple (butterscotch schnapps and Irish cream), sidecar (cognac, orange liqueur, and lemon juice), hot buttered rum (dark rum, butter, brown sugar, spices, hot water), Aperol spritz (Prosecco and soda), hurricane (dark rum, orange juice, passion fruit, grenadine, lime, and sweetener), mudslide (coffee liqueur, Irish cream, heavy cream), and Lynchburg lemonade (Jack Daniel’s and lemonade) all trended in 2019.

Food recipes

When we don’t know how to make a recipe, Google helps us out. For food recipes, the search engine reported a large uptick in searches for shepherds pie, chicken parmigiana, ham glaze, charoset (a common Passover dish made of fruits and nuts), snickerdoodle cookies, chaffle (a low-carb waffle made with egg and cheese—likely on the list thanks to our keto friends), chicken cacciatore, king cake, Popeyes chicken sandwich, and tater tot casserole.

Also see, Kale flavored candy canes actually exist, and that’s just the beginning.
