These are America’s favorite supermarkets

More and more consumers might be having groceries delivered curbside—or even right to their door—but that doesn’t mean we still don’t have strong preferences on where we shop. A new report from the American Customer Satisfaction Index, used data from more than 85,000 customers who compiled scores for different stores, ranking everything from cleanliness to product selection, store layout and more. So which stores came out on top? H-E-B, a privately owned supermarket chain based in Texas took top slot. Trader Joes, and Legman’s tied for second place. ALDI, Costco, and Publix all received the same rating to tie for third. Also see, how to avoid being rude at the grocery store. The bottom of the list? This is the best day to grocery shop, according to research

If your routine includes grocery shopping on the weekend, it might be time to reconsider. According to new research compiled by Colorado-based mobile technology company Ibotta, buying groceries on Saturday and Sunday could end up costing you more. While it might be convenient to hit the aisles on your day off, making the chore a weekday endeavor might result in a small savings. According to Today, it’s not as simple as going on Tuesday or Wednesday, but rather a tricky dance depending on what you’re going of. Ibotta’s research showed that going for wine on Tuesday is the least expensive day (4 percent cheaper), bread costs the least on Wednesday (2 percent less), and you should go Thursdays for beer (1 percent cheaper). For snacks, go Thursday (1 percent cheaper), and Fridays are the best time for ice cream (1 percent cheaper). While those numbers aren’t likely to save you hundreds of dollars…

Major grocers nationwide issue recall of fresh-cut vegetables

If you’ve gone to a grocery store lately, you’ll want to take a look at your fresh-cut vegetables because they may be under recall. Mann Packing issued the recall due to a fear that some of its minimally processed vegetables may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. No illnesses have been reported, but one positive result showed up during a random sampling by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. Major grocers including Whole Foods, Walmart, Target, Trader Joe’s Albertson’s, Meijer and others all issued voluntary recalls of Mann products after receiving the results. Affected products were sold throughout the United States and have “best if used by” dates between October 11 and October 20. Mann Packing Co. has posted a full list of products under recall on its website. Broccoli, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts were the most commonly affected foods, while a large number of vegetables trays made the list as well. “As an…

Walmart study shows which states prefer hot dogs vs. hamburgers

No matter where you live in the United States, cook-outs are a much anticipated part of summer. Is there anyone that doesn’t look forward to grilling hotdogs and hamburgers and piling a plate high with all the fixins’? To dive further into this American tradition, Walmart tracked sales of hot dogs and hamburgers in every state leading up to the Fourth of July to gauge where the hot dog and hamburger people hail from. Overwhelmingly, America is a burger nation — a whooping 39 states fell on the burger side of grocery shopping. Maine, Michigan and North Carolina were among the 11 states that made more hot dog purchases. And what’s a cook-out without condiments and side dishes? Walmart also tracked sales of ketchup, mustard and sides. Ketchup beat mustard in all 50 states while potato salad and coleslaw proved to be the country’s preferred side dishes. Cheap Walmart Wine Ranked One of the World’s Best

When you crave a fine wine, you probably don’t find yourself perusing the shelves at Walmart. But if you love a good deal, that exactly where you should head. Decanter Magazine ranked a $7 bottle of red wine sold at Walmart as one of the best in the world. The award went to La Moneda Reserva’s Malbec, a Chilean wine described as, “deep purple with violet tints, rounded and velvety tannins, complex plum, fig, and strawberry flavors and excellent length.” This isn’t the wine’s first award. At last year’s Decanter World Wine Awards, more than 200 experts participated in a blind taste test of more than 16,000 wine varieties from around the world. The results were tallied, resulting in Moneda Reserva’s Malbec winning title of Platinum Best in Show — validating everyone who swears that the only difference between a cheap and expensive wine is the label.
