Woman runs 10k stopping for 14 tacos along the route

One woman found an excellent way to stay motivated during a long run. Anna Orso of Billy Penn planned on running the Philadelphia 10k, until she found out the time to register had passed. That’s when she decided to run the course her own way. Though she wasn’t officially a participant for the race, Orso planned to race and stop at every taco shop along the course. He chosen plan ended up taking her to 13 taco shops, for a total of 14 tacos and one margarita consumed over the course five hours. But 14 tacos proved to be challenging in itself. Between tacos seven and eight, and at only 3.4 miles down, Orso starts to worry about her food fatigue, but pushes herself along: I’m starting to get fatigued. I walk into the 7-Eleven at 11th and Washington in search of water. I’m parched, and feel like I haven’t consumed a…

Honeygrow opens first restaurant in Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh restaurant scene is growing up. Once known in the culinary world mostly for it’s gut-busting, french fry-topped sandwiches — and perhaps its love affair with ketchup — the Steel City is finally getting more healthy, fast-casual restaurants. Hot on the heels of new eateries Pittsburgh Poke, Plate & Bowl and Earth Inspired Salads, Philly-based Honeygrow is the latest restaurant to bring simple yet sophisticated meal-in-a-bowl style eating to The ‘Burgh. Honeygrow Pittsburgh offers a menu full of seasonally-sourced produce that customers can use to create customized stir-fry bowls or salads. A menu hangs on the wall listing exactly which local farms particular produce came from. (On this day, I was pleased to know the broccoli in my stir-fry came from a town nearby to where I grew up.)  “People are control freaks, and I’m certainly one of them,” said Honeygrow CEO Justin Rosenberg, “And especially today.  There are…

Behold, Beyonce’s Birthday Cake is a black and gold beauty

In traditional Queen Bee style, Beyonce celebrated her birthday recently with a cake to top them all. On Wednesday, Philly-based Cake Life Bake Shop shared a photo via Instagram of a stunning, multi-tiered black and gold geode cake, and two smaller, yet equally delicious looking, birthday cakes. All three cakes were adorned with small details of crown and bee cookies — a truly custom cake for pop music royalty. The largest cake was honey lavender-flavored, covered in black fondant. White and yellow sugar crystals were perfectly placed to create the illusion of a sparkling geode. The three tiers were then topped with a gold crown fit for a queen — reminiscent of the headpiece the singer wore during the 2017 Grammy Awards. According to Philly Mag, the bake shop had no idea who the cake was for, until the shop co-owner, Lily Fischer, did some digging and traced the order to one of…
