How to freeze and thaw bread while keeping it fresh

If you’re guilty of wasting one food it’s probably bread. Here’s the all-too-common situation: You just twisted open a basic bag of sliced sandwich bread at home, but then you go ahead and buy an artisanal loaf to accompany tonight’s dinner-for-two anyway. (After all, they are very different breads.) Then you buy buns for grilling burgers later this week and perhaps some bakery rolls for Sunday’s dinner. That’s when you realize, you’ll never get through all of that bread before it gets stale. Can you keep it fresh in the freezer? Thankfully, the answer is yes! Most bread really only lasts about two or three days before it starts to show signs of staleness, or worse, mold, but the freezer can help ward off both. Walmart study shows which states prefer hot dogs vs. hamburgers

No matter where you live in the United States, cook-outs are a much anticipated part of summer. Is there anyone that doesn’t look forward to grilling hotdogs and hamburgers and piling a plate high with all the fixins’? To dive further into this American tradition, Walmart tracked sales of hot dogs and hamburgers in every state leading up to the Fourth of July to gauge where the hot dog and hamburger people hail from. Walmart also tracked sales of ketchup, mustard and sides. Ketchup beat mustard in all 50 states while potato salad and coleslaw proved to be the country’s preferred side dishes. The study also showed that Texans love their buns. The…

Chick-fil-A rolling out gluten-free bun, but there’s a catch

Chick-fil-A has gone gluten free! Not entirely, but the nationwide chicken sandwich chain is poised to capitalize on its consumers’ dietary needs with a new menu offering. Chick-fil-A announced on Monday that it will offer gluten-free buns at restaurants nationwide, after reportedly receiving positive feedback from test marketed areas in 2016. The gluten-free bun is made with ancient grains quinoa and amaranth and sweetened with molasses and raisins. “We know our customers are looking for more gluten-sensitive alternatives. They asked, and we listened,” said Leslie Neslage, senior consultant of menu development at Chick-fil-A in a release on the company’s Chicken Wire. “Our hope is that the Gluten-Free Bun addition opens up options for gluten-sensitive customers to enjoy more of our menu.” The new bun can be ordered with any of the restaurant’s sandwiches. But there is one catch. Customers who order the gluten-free buns will have to assemble their sandwiches themselves. According to…
